Head of Department: Dr Covell
The ICT department is developing rapidly. With ICT being a vital subject for pupils in today's technological world, we work hard to provide pupils with the skills and knowledge to allow them to understand and use ICT in work and home life.
All pupils in Key Stage 3 follow a scheme of work adapted from the National Strategy for ICT. Pupils have one lesson per week, throughout Year 7-9, taught by dedicated ICT teachers in our range of ICT suites.
At Key Stage 4, all students study Functional Skills ICT for 1 lesson a week. In addition, students can opt for the Higher Diploma in IT or the full course GCSE (OCR syllabus).
Sandhurst School has an excellent and rapidly expanding range of ICT facilities, situated within both the designated ICT suites and classrooms in all departments.
We are currently in the process of redesigning our network and updating our ICT provision across the school. ICT has become central to the way we work and learn and the new system will enable us to further capitalise on the power of ICT within our school.
Sandhurst School has 6 large PC Suites; 3 within the ICT department and three others around the school. This includes a dedicated 6th form ICT suite. In addition, several subjects have smaller clusters of PC's in designated areas.
In addition to fixed PC suites, the school benefits from a number of mobile classrooms. Trolleys of laptops are available across the school to bring ICT into the classroom.
Every teacher has a laptop and all classrooms have network access and a ceiling mounted digital projectors.
Sandhurst Digital Campus (SDC) is our virtual learning environment, provides 24/7 online access for students to lesson materials, activities, support materials and links to useful web resources.
