Head of Department: Mr Kingston

The English department is a successful, innovative and creative department with a team of seven full time English teachers.  We are a well-resourced department with an excellent range of novels, plays, poetry and the latest textbooks to support the effective learning of our students.  In addition, we actively encourage the use of technology in English through appropriate use of the PC suites; video cameras; ceiling mounted projectors; and various other forms of media.

In Key Stage 3, students are set according to their ability, and schemes of work are differentiated to encourage student learning at levels most appropriate to the individual.  These are regularly revisited to ensure students are in a class most appropriate to their needs.

In Key Stage 4, the majority of students study towards their English Literature and English Language GCSE qualifications.  Students will have the opportunity to study for Higher or Foundation examinations.

Our Key Stage 5 courses offer an exciting mix of Literature, Language and Media Studies.  Students are taught in small tutorials, offering close attention and high academic standards.
