Head of Department: Mrs Coyle
Syllabus: AQA
The syllabus enables us to offer an individual tailored approach to coursework. Students are allowed to investigate their creativity and personal interests through a visual medium. They engage with artists’ work, established and contemporary, and observe art in a wider context, taking inspiration and making connections to their own work.
- Coursework 60%
Themed projects are carried out during the two year course. These must include extensive sketchbook work and detailed worksheets, which reflect an understanding of the assessment objectives. Students realize their intentions in 2 or 3 dimensions in a variety of media.
- Examination 40%
Students are given 4 weeks prior to the exam to produce preparatory studies, similar to those carried out for coursework themes. These studies support the work carried out in the timed test period of 10 hours.
The two year course if successfully completed can lead to AS/A2 Art. The study of Art and the related awareness of the ‘visual and spatial practice’ offer opportunities for job and career as well as providing a creative outlet and a sense of personal achievement.
